As winter weather approaches, mulch protects your landscape, trees and shrubs from damaging winter conditions.
And if you mulch now, you will save money, because in November we are offering free delivery on all mulch installations.
Where and why do you need mulch? Here is what to consider:
- Protect from winter freezes – Before temperatures drop, top off your mulch to protect perennials, trees and shrubs from hard freezes. A layer of mulch also provides insultation of roots from temperature extremes of freeze and thaw cycles.
- Enrich soil and roots – Natural mulch breaks down slowly releasing nutrients into the soil to spur spring growth. Mulch also helps soil retain moisture, preventing roots from drying out.
- Stop erosion – Mulch applied over exposed soil stops erosion and compaction from strong rains and winter storms.
- Suppress weed growth – Your flowers may not bloom in the winter, but weeds can always find a way even in winter. Mulch prevents weeds from sprouting during winter warming trends.
Where to mulch:
- On bare spots of lawn to control erosion
- On all areas of exposed soil lacking other ground cover
- On flowerbeds, especially to cover dormant perennials
- To protect trees and shrubs from harsh winter storms
- Anywhere you mulch has diminished over the year
